HelpAge India- Helping Elderly Cancer Patients Find Relief

Cancer treatment in India is expensive and health insurance only helps the upper as well as middle classes. In nearly all cancer hospitals, poor old patients have to wait for months for diagnosis, arranging funds, looking for professional opinion and getting appointments from specialists. Inadequate treatment facilities and shortage of early screening, caused by poor public health system in the country has caused large numbers of cancer cases being reported extremely late for them to derive benefit from any long term treatment.
HelpAge India has been in partnership with various reliable as well as competent cancer hospitals and organizations for performing treatments which consist of operations, radiation and chemotherapy. These partners carry out cancer awareness and detection camps, as well.
Ever since HelpAge India started its involvement in Cancer Care for the senior citizens, it has given support of over Rs. 6.73 Crores to 29 hospitals as well as institutions in 11 states all over India. 25,000 aged people have been screened for cancer and more than 10,000 treatments provided. The aim for following 5 years is to offer treatment for two thousand poor elderly patients.
